Obituary of Walter Timothy Slezak

     Walter T. (Wally) Slezak, age 72 of Aiken, South Carolina, passed away on July 26, 2022. He is predeceased by his father Walter J. Slezak and his mother Mary Slezak.

     Walter is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 22 years, JoAnn, son Joseph Walter Slezak (Carrie), two daughters, Susan Marie Rusch (Michael) & Stephanie Flaischaker (Dave), 2 granddaughters, Aspen Lyn Slezak and Ashlyn Jean Slezak, sisters, Karen Ehant (Tom) and Diane Slezak.

     Born in Chicago, Wally was a brilliant, loyal and kind man. He was a lifelong avid sports fan, especially for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears. Wally graduated from St. Rita of Cascia High School in Chicago, earned an undergraduate degree for St. Procopius/Illinois Benedictine College, and went on to earn his law degree from Northwestern Pritzker Law School. He received his Reserve Naval officer’s commission and was assigned to the Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG). Wally has a prestigious law career in Chicago and was Partner at Lord Bissell and Brook, now known as Locke Lord, LLP, where he specialized in worldwide insurance defense cases.

     Wally and JoAnn moved south to Berkeley Hall in Bluffton, South Carolina and in 2019 made Aiken, South Carolina their home as members of the Reserve Club at Woodside.

     A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 with the Very Reverend Father Gregory Wilson as celebrant at St. Mary Help of Christians Church, 138 Fairfield Street, S.E., Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649-4477. A private reception will follow at The Reserve Club at Woodside.

     In lieu of flowers, donations in Wally’s memory would be welcomed by St. Rita Cascia High School, https://www.stritahs.com/donate or to the charity of one’s choice.
