Della and family,
I am saddened to hear of Michael's passing and I offer my deep condolences for your great loss. Fresh out of college in 1978, Michael was my first employer in my profession of mechanical engineering and I could not have been more fortunate and blessed for it. He was a kind, caring and giving man with a positive outlook, always offering encouragement, promoting growth and modeling professional behavior. All with the warmest of smiles originating right from his heart. I will always have special memories of my early years working for Michael and for the kindness you both provided to me.

Della, Dee, and Liz,
I am so sorry to hear about Michael’s passing. I have the fondest memories of him (and all of you!) and growing up next door for the 5 years we were there was the best! When you would have people over and serve food, he would always get me to try something new and to this day I still love artichokes - which he encouraged me to try. His smile was the best. May his memory be for a blessing.

Della, Dee and Liz,
So very sorry to hear of Michael's passing. He had such a kind soul. We will always remember Michael helping Ben build his Boy Scout derby race car (it came in last because he did not cheat). Michael was the person who intorduced me to gin and tonics and I love them to this day. His smile was infectious. I know he will be missed by all. May his memory be a blessing. Heidi and Steve Kramer

My heart is with you Liz, Dee and Della. It was an honor to know Michael, to receive one of his famous smiles and to experience the kindness and warmth that radiated within him. I've known Liz since middle school and when we both ended up going to Ithaca College, Michael let me know I could consider he and Della another set of hometown parents for any support needed. He was a wonderful light in this world.

As Dee's best friend throughout middle school and high school, I spent a LOT of time with the Hertzbergs. Michael called me "Cater" and I called him "Dadder" because he always and treated me as if I was part of the family. I was welcomed to innumerable sleepovers, family trips and holiday dinners. We never needed to plan in advance - Dadder (and Mommer) were always happy to have me along. Michael was such a sweet, easy-going and generous person. I am grateful to have known him.
Love,
Cate Foster Boerema

From the snowy night very long ago in Waitsfield, VT when I first met Michael and Della, to the last time we visited them in Cambridge, MA, it was a joy to be with Michael. Always the gentleman, with an infectious and wry sense of humor, he was a good friend and a loving family man. I have long missed the occasional golf game and comfortable friendship we enjoyed. Rest in peace friend.

Very sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He and I worked together on several very large state projects in Vermont... he as the Mechanical Engineer and I as the Project Architect. He was always very nice to work with and we spent many hours chatting mostly about skiing on our way to and from Burlington to Newport Vermont as our four story state office building project was being constructed. He also talked alot about his family and how much he liked being a part of their lives... The HVAC systems he designed will continue to give people using these buildings comfort for a very long long time. Alan Nevins
