Obituary of John Milton Loper
John Milton Loper, beloved husband of Lutgarda Cristeta Vega Loper, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter Mary on Wednesday evening, June 30, 2021 following an extended illness.
John was born in Meadville, PA on January 28, 1941 a son of the late Walter L. & Abbigaile Still Loper. Mr. Loper was a graduate of Meadville High School and Electrical Trade School. He was the owner and operator of Loper Electrical Services until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Church. Mr. Loper was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, The Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and the North American Hunting Club.
Mr. Loper was a proud United States Army Veteran having served in Vietnam. While in the army Mr. Loper received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, The Vietnam Campaign Medal with Devise 1960, 2 o/s Bars, the Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award) as well the Expert (M-14). In addition he was a Sharpshooter (Rifle M-1) and a Marksman (Carbine). He service to this nation is remembered and as nation, we are forever grateful.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Theresa Anne (William) Hines McAvoy of Smyrna, Deleware, Ava Maria Sawin of Salley, SC and Mary Magdalene James of McCormick; grandchildren, Monica, Cassi, Ashley, Celestina, Cristeta & Leross and great-grandchildren, Asia, Logan, Winton, Perseus, Matthew and Madelynn.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Loper was pre-deceased by a sister, Mary Loper.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at St. Mary Help of Christians Church, 138 Fairfield Street, SE, Aiken, SC 29801 with the Very Rev. Father Gregory Wilson as celebrant.
Interment with military honors will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 10:00am, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, July 7, 2021 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803)649.6234. A Rosary service will take place at 5:30pm in the chapel.
