Funeral services for Mr. Elmer E. Davenport will be held Friday, December 6, 2002 at 11 AM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC, with Reverend M. Eugene Mullikin, officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be Robert Lawson, William Charlton, Trey Charlton, Keith Lawson, Wilson Jones, and Buford Connelly. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, December 6, 2002 from 10 AM until service time. Mr. Davenport, 95, of Aiken, SC, husband of the late Ellen C. Davenport, died, Wednesday, afternoon, December 4, 2002 at Carriage Hills Plantation.
Born in Roslindale, MA, a son of the late Frank A. Davenport and the late Louise Nehring Davenport, he had lived in, Aiken, SC, since 1954, where he retired after thirty-seven years of service as a Civil Engineer with E.I. DuPont and was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island in 1931, he was commissioned into the United States Army.
Surviving Mr. Davenport are daughters, Ellen Ehrhart and her husband, Wayne, Aiken, SC, and Sara Jane Lawson, and her husband, Jerry, Florence, AL; grandchildren, Deborah Charlton, Keith Lawson, and Wendy Troutt, and great-grandchildren, Trey Charlton, Chris Charlton, Ashleigh Lawson, Kayla Lawson, and Tanner Troutt.
The family would like to thank the staff of Carriage Hills Plantation for the loving care and support given to Mr. Davenport.
The family has requested that memorials in memory of Mr. Davenport be made to St. Johns United Methodist Church or Carriage Hills Plantation.
