Obituary of Galen Ralph Haffner Jr.

WINDSOR, SC—Senior Chief Galen Ralph Haffner Jr., US Navy (Ret.), passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018, after a long struggle with Mesothelioma Cancer.

He was born September 28, 1947 (age 71) in Fort Worth, Texas. He is survived by his two children, Stephen Chad Haffner (Cora) and Cassondra Haffner Hayasaka (Keith); a sister, Marcie Barnett (Graham); three grandchildren, Grant Haffner, Lucas Hayasaka, and Naomi Hayasaka. He was preceded in death by his brother, Marion Stephen (Steve) Kooy.

Following his fathers’ footsteps, he joined the Navy in 1965. He began his career at the US Navy Training Center in San Diego, CA where he was appointed Recruit Chief Petty Officer. His career saw five tours of duty in Vietnam and service aboard the USS Oriskany, Kitty Hawk, Ranger, and Nimitz. He retired having served 28 plus years in the Navy. He received numerous awards, recognitions, and medals throughout his distinguished career.

Friends may call Friday, November 16, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at George Funeral Home in downtown Aiken.

A graveside service will be held at Southlawn Cemetery, 4524 Whiskey Rd., Aiken, SC 29803, at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 17, 2018 with full military honors.
