Obituary of Charles M. Armour Jr.

AIKEN, SC— Charles “Chuck” M. Armour Jr., beloved local photographer, entered into rest Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the age of 75.

Chuck was born May 31, 1943 in New York, New York to the late Charles M. Armour Sr. and the late Helen Brown Armour. He was a graduate of Aiken High School and USC Aiken. During his high school days, he worked for the George family working funerals, driving the ambulance, and delivering flowers after services.  Chuck served in the Marine Corps. for five years and later worked as a Sports Editor at the Aiken Standard and News Editor at the Island Packet on Hilton Head Island.

He opened Chuck Armour Photograph in the 1970’s and operated it until his untimely death. His career as a photographer earned him a degree as a “Master Photographer.” He was known for his skill of real portraiture and most of his clients began as toddlers and spanned to high school to eventual weddings.  

In addition to photography, Chuck’s other passions were for gardening and enjoying the outdoors. He had a strong passion for children, animals, and veterans causes. He was an active member of The Aiken Lions Club since 1978 where he served as president four terms and received their top humanitarian award The Melvin Jones Fellow and The Lion of The Year award. Chuck won many awards through the years for his photography, including an American Advertising Award known as an ADDY award.

He is survived by his son, Chad M. Armour (Lainie), Springfield, SC; a sister, Cathy Broom (Ralph), Roswell, GA; a granddaughter, Stephanie Armour; a great-granddaughter, Adrianne McCowdan; a niece, Megan Elizabeth Broom; and a nephew, Charles Jason Broom.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM Sunday, November 4, 2018 at George Funeral Home in downtown Aiken, with a funeral service following in the George Funeral Chapel at 3:00 PM. Pastor Clint Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be the staff of George Funeral Home.
