Obituary of Oliver Theodore White

AUGUSTA, GA

Mr. Oliver Theodore White, Sr. 73, loving husband of Diane Jones White, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his residence after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, October 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, 2502 Richmond Hill Rd, Augusta, GA 30906, with Chaplain Dusty Wammack officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta, GA. Pallbearers will be Gary Wertz, Stephen Lamb, Austin James, and Richard Pieczynski.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, Mr. White is survived by his mother, Rosa Lee White, his son, Oliver T. White, Jr. (Mary), daughter, Christa Diane Carter (Richard) and two grandsons, Richard Brent Carter and Payton Stanley Carson Carter. Also his sister,  Myrtle Tiller (Bobby), four nephews and two nieces, as well as numerous cousins.  He was preceeded in death by his father, Mr. Theodore White and sister-in-law, Shirley Jones Gardiner.

Mr. White was the youngest child born to Ted and Rosa White on October 28, 1944 in Augusta.  From a young age, he displayed a tender love for the outdoors and animals of all kinds. His mother encouraged this love of animals and growing up he had a wide variety of pets ranging from a pet goose, Henrietta to a racoon named Sugar.  As a young adult, he spent his free time divided between hunting, fishing and working on cars with friends and cousins at his Aunt and Uncle’s paint and body shop, including his prized white 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air.  He met his wife Diane at Lombard’s Pond during the summer of 1958 and they were married five years later.  He was a graduate of The Academy of Richmond County and upon completing high school he attended Augusta Technical College and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Small Electronics Technology.  His hobbies in addition to outdoor sports, included Riflery and competitive Archery.  In 1984 he placed 2nd in the state wide Georgia National Field Archery Association Competition.  He retired after 47 years in sales and service management in the CSRA. He was a member of Burns United Methodist Church and His gentle and caring nature was evident in his willingness to help anyone in need and his ability to repair anything was unmatched. One of the highlights of his life were his children and grandchildren.  His kind and gentle nature as well as his ability to look at the brighter side of life will be greatly missed by his friends and family. The family would like to express sincere gratitude for the tender loving care and compassion received from South East Hospice.
